Perspective is a funny thing. Like when you're out and about and see a couple together and they're so caught up in each other that they seem to phase out the world around them, what does that bring to mind? A long time ago, I know for a fact I was envious. They're so lucky, or so I thought. "I wish that was me." Now, I see the same exact scenario and I'm so much more cynical. "They can't be happy - and even if they ARE happy, it won't last forever.", "Poor bastard. He has no idea what she's REALLY thinking." It's a complete 180º perspective. The weird thing I still feel confident that both perspectives were correct at the given time. What if most things in life are a matter of perspective and people just don't realize it. We find our way into arguments and fights and wars ... not because one side is right and one is wrong, but simply because we have no respect for a perspective other than our own. It's just a thought.

Presidential elections are coming up. It's a hard thing to take interest in when you live in a blood-red state. And it's especially difficult when you're as cynical as I am. To talk to people I know, I'd have to predict a win for McCain. I like to call him McBush, personally. Common sense would have me look at McCain's platform, look at Bush's policies, look at Bush's approval ratings, and automatically assume McCain can't possibly win. But like I said, I'm going against common sense and predicting a McCain win. After all, four years ago common sense told me there was no way Bush would get re-elected... so, yeah. Obama fits my "anyone but McBush" criteria, but I disagree a great deal with the democrats' stance of providing welfare to worthless human beings. Still, the democrats are the lesser of two evils in my opinion. If Obama wins, I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Personally, I think if I do convince myself to leave the house on election day, I'll be writing in Dr. Ron Paul as a matter of principal. If people were smart, they would elect Dr. Paul and put this country back like the founding-fathers intended it to be. The ideas of Liberty and Freedom are not out-dated; In fact, they're relatively new - historically speaking. In the span of recorded history, societies that are over-shadowed by tyranny, oppresion, and government control are a dime a dozen, and that's the direction we're heading - because we've lost sight of not only what our founding-fathers set up for us, but WHY they set it up the way they did. The U.S. constitution is a brilliantly constructed LIVING document that serves to keep our governement in-line with the founders' principals, but it only works so long as we hold our government accountable to it. The question, really, is whether a people who sit idly by and do nothing while their government chips away at their liberties deserve to be free.
