I know I normally reserve this space to talk about myself and issues I'm facing in my life, but I stumbled upon a video recently that I want to talk about instead. If you take the time to read what I have to say about it, and watch part of it, I think you would agree it is fitting that I bring this up today, July 4th, as we celebrate our country's independence. The main reason being that this video has led me to, at the very least, think about how independent our country really is.

If you're open-minded enough, or willing to sacrifice two-hours of your life in which u will be exposed to ideas and arguments that very well may conflict with your own ideas and beliefs, then I encourage you to watch the video in it's entirety. I hesitate to call this a documentary, but the video certainly presents itself as such. First off, let me say that I don't know how much of this video I agree with and how much I don't. Frankly, I don't think it matters. Like I said, this isn't about me.

The film starts off as an attempt to explain religion. However, I'm sure most religious people would see it as an attack on their beliefs. As many of you know, I am an atheist so the content of part one honestly had no impact on me. I personally have a problem with anyone who wastes time debunking the bible when religion viewed from outside, looking at all religions - past as well as current, is all the evidence a rational person should need to reach the same conclusion; Religion is a tool. I won't lie, however, the fact that the video reaches this conclusion, regardless of the route it took to get there, to me, gave it a sense of credibility.

At approximately 36:58, the video changes directions with part two. Here, they go off on a wild adventure into 9/11 conspiracy. Although some of the evidence in this section is hard to deny, I usually tend to be a fan of idea that the governement is too incompetent to pull off such a conspiracy. Still, it's worth watching in my opinion.

Finally, there is part three which begins at approximately 1:11:06. I think this section had the most thought-provoking content in the entire video. If you don't watch anything else, I think this is the part of the video that, as an american, you should watch regardless of the other claims made in this video. A lot of time is spent discussing the american revolution, central banking systems, and the establishment of the Federal Reserve Bank in the early 20th century along with the events that lead up to it as well as the events since. Some claims are made about the federal income tax as well.

Before I give you the link, let me clarify that I'm not asking anyone to take the information (or mis-information as is almost certainly the case in some places) that is represented in this video as THE TRUTH. All I hope to do is get a few more people thinking about these things.

The Link.

After viewing this video I found myself asking myself, among many other questions, when watching the news, why does the media report how much money the presidential candidates have raised?... as though it is a determining factor in the elections? Aren't elections determined by votes? Aren't we voting based on a candidate's platform? How they would vote on certain social issues? How they would conduct foreign policy? Or are we voting based on the number of ads we're bombarded with? What does the size of a candidates war-chest REALLY represent other than the willingness to be bought-out by special-interest groups?

On a seperate note, I'd like to say that the only candidate for president that I currently support doesn't appear as though he will be on the ballot come novemeber of 2008. However, just to let you all know, despite the fact that nearly every test, quiz, or other method I've ever used to determine my political label has marked me being left of center, the candidate I currently endorse is Ron Paul. Yes, he's a republican, though as un-bush-like as I can imagine. I'm not going to go into all the reasons why I think he's the right man for the job, but I will refer you to his wikipedia entry so you can review his record/platform for yourself.

Anyway, that's about all I have time for. Please feel free to leave a comment!
